Where's Marty? Getting a look at the newly reopened Joseph Education Center at the Baltimore Museum

Hi Everyone!

My headline today could easily be, "K2 plays chess on a very high level. WHO KNEW!"

That is K2 and Tracey Beale, Manager of Public Programs at the Baltimore Museum of Art discussing chess this morning.

And the reason we are talking fun, and games, at one of America's finest art museums was our "WM?" subject this A.M. Welcome to the reimagined Joseph Education Center.

This kids and family part of the BMA opened in 2015 but was recently reworked and reopened to the public. It is a place where the museum wants you to touch, to feel, and to explore. They and the Joseph family want kids to imagine, and families to experience together.

And the entrance and three main rooms are all curated by artists who themselves are educators.

The entrance is a wire view of the Harbor Tunnel. Walk through it. Run your hands across it. Let the rods vibrate and watch the art you have just touched change.

The next room was curated by a Baltimore artist Derrick Adams, it is called the "Dew Drop Inn." And you do just that on colorful and fun bean bag chairs with arms.

And as you can see from the picture the room is more than just the chairs.

Around the corner is where a Mexican artist/educator put together a display of board games from around the world, and paintings depicting more worldwide fun with games.

It was here, in front of the chess set, that we found out K2 was familiar with one of the famous opening Chess moves, "The Queens Gambit." (Google it.)

The education center tour ends in the Insight Lab where everything in sight is fair game, and where drawers are supposed to be opened to explore what is in them.

Hit up the BMA website, https://artbma.org/ for more info, and times, (Sundays excpet holidays), when entrance is free. This is a great way to introduce a youngster, or parents even yourself to the Baltimore Museum of Art. Frankly one of the coolest and most relaxed places I know!
