Westminster Livestock Auction Slowly Resumes Sales After Fire
WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- The Westminster Livestock Auction is slowly recovering from a fire in January that damaged its offices and indoor seating areas.
The Carroll County Times reported Friday that the business will hold weekly small animal sales starting April 24.
The sales of animals such as rabbits, chickens and guinea pigs will be held outdoors.
Owner Earl Gouker says the business has held weekly outdoor sales of large animals and hay since the fire, but hasn't offered small animals, produce or farm tools.
He says the nearest auctions for small animals are in Hagerstown and Greencastle, Pa., both more than 40 miles away.
Gouker says he hopes to reopen for indoor livestock auctions Aug. 1.
