Western Md. Man Dies After He Was Hit By Train
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A Hagerstown man has died more than a week after he was hit by a freight train.
A sister of 58-year-old Michael Baker told The Herald-Mail Monday that Baker died Sunday at a Baltimore hospital.
Hagerstown police say Baker was he was struck by a Norfolk Southern train Aug. 15 while crossing the tracks on foot in a light industrial area off North Burhans Boulevard. The area is known for homeless camps and shortcuts.
Capt. Paul Kifer says police have arrested a woman who was with Baker but fled before emergency crews arrived.
He says police are waiting for Norfolk Southern to turn over video footage from the train.
Kifer says the collision occurred on railroad property.
