West Baltimore High School Tours White House

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Students from Frederick Douglas High School were invited the White House Wednesday to visit the inspiration behind one of their recent projects.

After a tour of the White House's East wing students from the Baltimore high school head to its garden.

The trip gave students an up-close look at a garden very similar to the one they created back in April with the help of an $11,000 grant from the U. S. Department of Agriculture.

From West Baltimore to the White House, the trip was orchestrated by a Baltimore native and now assistant to President Obama and cabinet secretary, Broderick Johnson.

Johnson says this trip is not just a trip to the White House for students, but a door opened to a vision that now includes endless possibilities.

The garden is a part of a larger initiative from the White House to invest in job opportunities for young people and restore parks and green spaces in the city of Baltimore to revitalize neighborhoods.

And with Wednesday's visit, it was one that many students will never forget.
