W.Va. Principal Gets Md. Jail Time For Road Death
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A West Virginia high school principal is going to jail for killing a woman with his car last March near Hagerstown.
The Herald-Mail reports William Guth, 58, of Hagerstown pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge of criminally negligent vehicular manslaughter. He was sentenced to three weekends in jail, a total of nine days.
Guth is principal of Jefferson High School in Charles Town, W.Va.
Charges dismissed in the plea deal included driving under the influence of alcohol. Prosecutors say Guth had a blood-alcohol level of 0.08, the legal limit in Maryland, when he struck and killed Priyanka Malik, 26, on the Sharpsburg Pike.
Guth told police Malik had run into the road.
Guth received probation before judgment in 2002 after he was charged with driving under the influence.
