Vigil Planned Friday For Md. Doctor Who Died From Ebola
LANDOVER HILLS, Md. (WJZ) -- A vigil will be held Friday for Dr. Martin Salia, a surgeon from Maryland, who died after contracting Ebola abroad earlier this month.
Salia was working in Sierra Leone when he contracted Ebola, but initially had a negative test. A few days later, after continuing to suffer from symptoms, he retook the test -- this time testing positive.
He was flown to a Nebraska hospital for treatment on Nov. 15, but he was already critically ill, unable to walk.
His family was praying for his survival but he died 36 hours later. Doctors said he was "extremely ill" and he eventually passed away due to cardiac arrest.

Salia's family will hold a vigil in his honor Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Mary's Church in Landover Hills. It's only open to family and the St. Mary's Church parish.
The funeral will be held at the same church on Saturday at 1 p.m.
