Vigil Held For McKenzie Elliot On One Year Anniversary Of Fatal Shooting

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A somber anniversary today as a prayer vigil is held for 3-year-old McKenzie Elliot, who was gunned down in front of her home one year ago.

WJZ's Marcus Washington has more.

One year with no answers is leaving a community hurting.

McKenzie Eilliot was gunned down while playing in front of her home on the 3600 block of Old York Road. Last year former Police Commissioner Anthony Batts promised an arrest within days of the killing, but the case remains unsolved.

"The person responsible, we will bring him to justice before the end of the week," Batts said.

On Saturday night, candles burn igniting the light, similar to the light this beautiful little girl left with so many.

McKenzie's mother, Nina, says the past year has been difficult for her family.

"Every time I see children outside it puts me in the mind frame of my daughter," she said.

The flashbacks of the first time she started walking, talking and when she first started using the potty, Nina said.

It's a constant reminder of 3-year-old McKenzie and the young life that was taken far too soon.

Now, 52 weeks, 365 days, 12 months, no matter how you say it, a year has gone by and no one has been arrested for this child's death.

An $8,000 reward is still up for anyone with information leading to an arrest in the case.
