2 Men Arrested In Maryland For Human Trafficking
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (WJZ) --- Two men have been arrested and charged for human trafficking and other related charges in Somerset County on Sunday.
Thirty-three- year-old Travon Anthony, also known as Katone Walker, and 23-year-old Kyree Tatem were arrested after troopers found out two women traveling with them were held against their will.
Police arrived at a hotel around 6 p.m. Sunday after receiving information from one of the victim's family members that she was being held against her will. Troopers found the room, knocked on the door and saw Tatem and both female victims. They told police that Anthony was in Delaware picking up items he left in a hotel.
According to police, interviews revealed that Anthony was running the operation. Both women had traveled with Anthony and Tatem from Delaware to Maryland. The women had engaged in prostitution and agreed to have Anthony arrange clients. Tatem watched the women when Anthony was gone.
Police said one of the women was beaten by Anthony on Nov. 30. Anthony threatened to kill the woman if she tried to leave.
Anthony and Tatem brought the women to Maryland and checked them in to a Somerset County hotel. While traveling, one of the women sent a message to a family member. The family member immediately contacted police.
Police were able to find Anthony's vehicle. He was stopped, arrested and charged with two counts of human trafficking, kidnapping and false imprisonment. Tatem was charged with two counts of human trafficking, kidnapping, false imprisonment and possession of heroin. Both men are being held at the Somerset County Detention Center without bond.
The female victims are ages 20 and 25.
