Two injured after assault in Baltimore County, police presence on Reisterstown road
BALTIMORE -- Two people are injured following an assault at a Baltimore County shopping plaza, according to police.
Around 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a reported assault in the 9100 block of Reisterstown Road where Valley Village is located.
Ttwo men had lacerations to the upper body and were taken to the hospital, according to police.
Police also said the victims knew the suspect.
A new barbershop owner, who does not want to be identified, confirmed to WJZ the incident started inside his business where crime scene investigators documented part of the scene.
"These were not people in my appointment book," he said. "None of my barbers knew who these people were. They came in as walk-ins. These people who came in had enemies and those enemies came looking for them specifically."
The owner described a fight that escalated into violence that involved shots being fired and a knife. "I heard extreme violence, and I knew to get down... barricade the door. I had a client with me in the room and wanted to make sure they were safe and in minutes, it was over," he said.
The incident spilled out into a section of the Valley Village parking lot.
A witness who was on the clock at an event planning business next door described the moments after the shots were fired. "I heard 3 shots pop and then I see a bunch of people run away. One guy with half his shirt off, covered in blood. I locked the door and then I closed all the curtains, turned off the lights and headed to the back and stayed back there," he said.
The barbershop owner said no staff or other customers were injured but added that the incident has already spurred changes to safety protocols.
"We won't be taking walk-ins anymore, we will only be taking appointments, the door will be locked, barbers will come and let their specific clients in and that's it," he said.
Baltimore County Police Department is still investigating the incident and has not confirmed whether any of the suspects have been taken into custody.
