Trump 'Irritated' To Learn Rod Rosenstein Was From Baltimore
BALTIMORE (WJZ) - President Donald Trump is showing discontent with his Deputy Attorney General after learning he came from Baltimore.
In an interview with the New York Times, the president reportedly said he was irritated to learn Rod Rosenstein had begun his career in Baltimore.
"When Mr. Sessions recused himself, the president said he was irritated to learn where his deputy was from," the New York Times article said. It then quoted Trump as saying "there are very few Republicans in Baltimore, if any."
"I feel that being from Baltimore is an asset, and I'm not happy that the president is talking in a disparaging way about Baltimore," said Maryland Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger (D). "To say you don't like him because he's from Baltimore? Mr. President, you have to stop focusing on yourself and your family and start focusing on your constituents."
He said it's time for the president to stop tweeting, start leading, and apologize to Baltimoreans.
"We are working here every day to advance the priorities of the department of justice and the administration," Rosenstein said. "I was proud to be here yesterday. I am proud to be here today. I will be proud to be here tomorrow.
Rosenstein served as U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland for 12 years until April when he was appointed Deputy Attorney General.
Rosenstein, who was born in Philadelphia, has served under five presidents and described himself as apolitical, gaining widespread bipartisan support during his latest confirmation.
In his new role, Rosenstein was tasked with appointing a special counsel to oversee the Russia probe.
