State Trooper Stabbed, Suspect Fatally Shot In Westminster
WESTMINSTER, Md. (WJZ) -- A Maryland State trooper was stabbed, then fatally shot the man who stabbed him in a struggle in Westminster Monday.
According to police, a trooper responded to the intersection of Washington Road and Stoner Avenue around 8 a.m. for a call about destruction of property.
A man called police to say his tires had been slashed for the second day in a row. He told police the suspect was armed with a knife.
The trooper saw the suspect described walking along the road near the intersection. The trooper approached the suspect on foot and tried to talk to him. A struggle ensued and the trooper was stabbed in the side by the suspect.
The trooper then shot the man.
The 34-year-old suspect was taken to Carroll Hospital for treatment and later died. He has been identified as Michael J. D'Angelo of Westminster.
The trooper was taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. The six-year veteran trooper was released from the hospital Monday afternoon.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is investigating the trooper-involved shooting. When the investigation is complete, it'll be submitted to the the Carroll County State's Attorney's Office for review. An investigation by the Maryland State Police Internal Affairs Division will also be conducted.
Police continue to collect evidence on the scene. A knife was located at the scene.
At this time, police do not have a motive for why D'Angelo stabbed the officer.
