Trooper On DUI Patrol Gets Hit By DUI Driver, for 2nd Time

PIKESVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland State Police says a trooper patrolling for drunk drivers in Prince George's County was struck by an impaired driver, the second time the trooper has been hit by a drunk driver while on DUI patrol.

Maryland State Police say 1st Sgt. David Ryan was patrolling Route 193 at 3:30 a.m. Saturday when his patrol vehicle was struck in the right front by a driver changing lanes. State police say the 19-year-old driver who hit Ryan had a learner's permit and was arrested for driving impaired.

State police say neither the teen nor Ryan was injured. State Police said it was the second time Ryan has been struck by an impaired driver.
