Triple shooting rattles South Baltimore's Brooklyn neighborhood

BALTIMORE -- Three men were shot in South Baltimore's Brooklyn neighborhood on Wednesday.

Officers on patrol in the southern part of the city were sent to the intersection of 5th Street and Patapsco Avenue for a report of a shooting around 4:25 p.m., according to authorities.

Once there, they found two 18-year-old men and a 23-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds, police said. All three men were transported to a local hospital.

One of the 18-year-old men is in critical condition, which is why homicide detectives have been advised of the shooting, according to authorities.

Neighborhood resident Eric Reyes told WJZ that he was home when he heard gunshots right outside of his front door.

Then, the sound of sirens from patrol cars and firetrucks filled the neighborhood, Eric Reyes recalled.

"There were people running from around here to the store to see what happened," Eric Reyes said.

Neighborhood resident William Reyes said the area was unsafe.

"I mean, it happens all the time around here," he said.

Members of Baltimore's Safe Streets program watched as investigators looked for evidence in the aftermath of the triple shooting.

"We shouldn't be harming each other that way," one of them told WJZ.

Mayor Brandon Scott announced earlier today that homicides were down around 20% this year as compared to last year, and nonfatal shootings were down about 10.3%.

Although the numbers show progress, some Baltimore residents still feel like violence in the city is still out of control.

"It's just sad to see everybody getting killed around here," Eric Reyes said. "It's just crazy."

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact detectives at 410-396-2499.

Anonymous tipsters can call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
