Travis Thomas: Moves The Ravens Should Make In Free Agency
First let me start by saying that I believe Justin Forsett will re-sign with the Ravens. I don't believe he is going to get big time running back money, partly because he is a 5'8 under 200 pound back who wore down as the season went on. The other part is because big money running backs no longer exist. If elite backs Demarco Murray and LeSean McCoy are jumping through hoops to get paid, Justin Forsett will need to rob a bank. Now if some idiot GM is out there and will pay him top dollar, I stand corrected. However, I believe Forsett will test the market and decide to return to Baltimore at a reasonable price. The Redskins, Colts and Falcons are also rumored to be interested in his services.
Forsett was quoted on BaltimoreRavens.com as saying "That taste is still bitter in my mouth. I still want to go back and replay those plays and those mistakes that we made, and wish things could be different. That's why an opportunity to come back to the Ravens would be interesting to me, and trying to get back to a championship."
With the departure of Torrey Smith, Andre Johnson makes sense for the Ravens because of their need at wide receiver and their successful history with aging receivers, from Derrick Mason to Anquan Boldin to Steve Smith Sr. Adding another piece in the draft via tight end, wide receiver or both, the Ravens receiving core could look elite. The competition for Johnson will be stiff however. The Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots are potential suitors for Johnson, and much like the Ravens, they can all offer him a shot at winning a Super Bowl. The Colts and Seahawks, have the most cap space, and can offer Johnson more money than the Ravens. Not to mention the Colts can offer him two opportunities a year at getting payback with the Texans because they play in the same division. Johnson's size is ideal for this system at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds new offensive coordinator Marc Trestman loves big wideouts.
