Travelers at busy BWI Airport return from holiday destination with few issues

BALTIMORE - Millions of people spent Sunday evening traveling back home after the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport was busy Sunday as travelers returned from their destinations.

"I think it was more crowded than Thursday," said Kiuk Kim, who was traveling back to Chicago.

WJZ learned the Transportation Security Administration expected to screen a record 2.9 million people Sunday. That's the most in the agency's 20 year plus history, surpassing the record set on June 30 of this year.

The Federal Aviation Administration also said nearly 45,000 flights were booked for Sunday, with the rush expected to stretch into Monday.

At BWI, WJZ saw long line and delays.

Rainy weather also put a damper on the travel for some.

"(I had) a little turbulence in the sky, but seeing the weather here, I think that was what was causing It," said Laura Parker, from Parkville.

But, most of the people WJZ spoke with who were boarding their flights told us they didn't have any issues.

"I don't have any concerns with going through security," Kim said.

At baggage claim, passengers arriving back in Baltimore, like Daniel Rossi, from Federal Hill, also said they didn't have any issues.

"The traveling went actually really smooth for us both going out and coming back here," Rossi said.

While airports were busy Sunday, according to AAA, most of the people traveling back from the Thanksgiving weekend drove, which is about 50 million people.
