Towson Burglar Tries To Rob Uncle Wiggly's, Instead Makes A Snack, Police Say
TOWSON, MD. (WJZ) — Police are searching for a suspect in the burglary of a popular sandwich and ice cream joint in Towson.
A burglar reportedly broke into Uncle Wiggly's and tried to steal cash from a register but was disappointed to find it empty, police said.
Refusing to walk away empty-handed, he helped himself to a snack and a drink, stole some personal property left by employees and fled through the back door.
Store Manager Eden Lopez said he didn't notice anything was missing until he went through the security footage.
"I was looking and I was like, 'Wait a minute, he's drinking one of my Snapple's, hahaha.'"
Police said that the fact the suspect grabbed a snack and drink isn't that odd. What was strange to police, however, was that the man hung out in the store for about 30 minutes.
"Typically what we see in a burglar break-in, they try to access the cash register," Jennifer Peach, of Baltimore County Police, said. "When they realize they're unable to, they very quickly try to escape."
In total, the store estimates less than $50 of stuff was taken, but police said it's still important to catch the suspect.
"It's a burglary," Peach said. "It's a felony offense and we know if he's done it once, he'll do it again, or he's done it previously."
