Towson Beats William & Mary In The Stretch 85-70

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Mike Burwell scored a career-high 23 points and Jerelle Benimon added 21 with 14 rebounds for his NCAA-leading 17th double-double this season as Towson beat William & Mary down the stretch 85-70 Saturday.

Burwell was busy in the first half with 15 points as theTigers (17-9, 8-3 Colonial Athletic) went up by as many as 12.

But William & Mary (15-9, 7-4) roared back in the second half, making a tight battle until the final 4:53. Marcus Thornton hit a 3-pointer (his only field goal) to pull William & Mary to 67-65 with just under 5 minutes to go, but the Tribe was outscored 18-5 the rest of the way, missing six shots. Towson's Four McGlynn hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored all 11 of his points in the last 3:26.

Brandon Britt and Omar Prewitt led the Tribe with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Tim Rusthoven added 11.
