Tourism Group Pitches D.C. As Date Night Destination

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Tourism officials are preparing to showcase Washington as a destination for romance.

The Destination D.C. tourism bureau is launching its new six-week Date Nights D.C. campaign on Wednesday. The group pulled together 58 different deals and discounts for romantic packages, including hotel stays, moonlit monument tours, theaters, bars and restaurants.

In one package, Ford's Theatre is offering two-for-one tickets to the production of "Violet" for patrons who mention "Date Nights D.C."

The tourism group offers a list of more than 100 date night ideas and 28 of the most romantic spots in the city.

Tourism officials plan to target travelers within a 200-mile radius of Washington. The campaign runs through March 2, which is usually a quiet time for leisure travel to Washington.
