Tornado Cleanup Continues In Parts Of Howard County
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WJZ) -- Cleanup continues in parts of Howard County following this week's tornado. Those affected are still hauling away loads of storm debris scattered across the region, WJZ's Tracey Leong reports.
Broken branches and snapped trees are piling up in Howard County. People have been dragging storm debris from their damaged properties to several drop off sites set up around the county.
"It saves us a lot of time, it will help speed the cleaning up. And I hope it's open for the next month," said James Polli.
Howard County has opened up additional drop off locations, providing a convenient option to clean up the massive damage.
James Polli was one of many hit hard by the EF0 tornado that was on the ground for 20-minutes, causing a path of destruction through Glenelg and surrounding communities.
"Really, it looked like a war zone. In particular, the back part of the property looked like a nuclear bomb because nothing is standing," said Polli.
Sky Eye Chopper 13 captured the devastation. Trees were ripped from the ground, falling across roads and crushing homes.
"Surprised that a lot of our siding was off, tree limbs were down -- big limbs," said Ivan Markowitz.
The county has increased staff during this storm recovery period, helping residents with the overwhelming mess mother nature left behind.
"Much closer. I can go back and forth quicker and easier. Very nice of them," Markowitz said.
No one was hurt in the tornado. A final damage estimate was still being tallied.
