Tom Petty Dies, Taken Off Life Support After Cardiac Arrest

UPDATE: Rocker Tom Petty passed away Monday night at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles after he suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu, California, spokeswoman Carla Sacks said. He was 66.

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Tom Petty was taken off life support after being rushed to the hospital Sunday night after he was found unconscious and in full cardiac arrest, according to TMZ.

CBS News had been reporting that Petty had died, but Los Angeles Police denies this information and says the initial report was "inadvertently provided to some media sources."

First responders reportedly found him in full cardiac arrest in his Malibu home, before taking him to a hospital, where he was put on life support.

TMZ reports that Petty had no brain activity when he got to the hospital, and it was decided to pull life support.

They say the legendary lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is now reportedly "clinging to life."

TMZ reports that Petty's family has put a "do not resuscitate" order on him.
