The Stanley Cup Final And A Possible Braden Holtby Contract Preview
Joe Beninati is the play by play voice of Capitals game broadcasts on Comcast Sportsnet.
Joe joined Ed and Steve to talk about the Stanley Cup Final series between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Chicago Blackhawks.
Joe started off by talking about game one last night which Chicago won 2-1 saying "I loved the way Tampa Bay started, Corey Crawford was great and Chicago hung around and when they got their chance to score they did. As for the Andrew Shaw biting incident and what he makes of the situation saying "Andrew Shaw is one player that everybody in the NHL loves to hate, if you have him on your side you think he's the greatest...he is not a lovable character." As for how the inexperience of Lightning coach John Cooper and what kind of moves he'll make to change for game two Joe said "Cooper is fantastic and I think he is a terrific young coach, I don't think he is going to change much" with Joe talking about how they handled most of the game. Joe also talked about Braden Holtby's contract negotiations with the Caps and what the terms may look like saying "will it be the bridge deal to get him to unrestricted free agency or will the Caps give him the King's ransom 5 or 6 year $30-35 million kind of deal?...I fully expect Braden to receive a significant raise from last year and he is deserving of it."
