Suspicious Death Of Western Maryland Man Ruled A Homicide

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The death of a man whose decomposing body was found last week in a Hagerstown apartment has been ruled a homicide.

Police announced the finding by the state medical examiner's office on Thursday.

They say a maintenance worker found the remains of 65-year-old William Edward Carter on Feb. 10. Police say Carter lived in the upstairs apartment on Summit Avenue, a few blocks from the city center.

Officer Heather Aleshire says the body was found lying on a bedroom floor.

Police aren't releasing the cause and manner of death. They say they're actively investigating the case.
