Steve Davis: Don't Sleep On Texans
I know the assumption will be that, because of the Texans QB situation, this is a sure win for the Ravens. I am going to pick the Ravens, because the Texans QB situation is awful. Case Keenum and Thad Lewis are the choices. Neither guy was on active roster until very recently. Keenum started 8 games for Houston last year, and lost all 8. He was cut in training camp and put on the Rams practice squad. The Texans just signed him this week. Lewis started 5 games for Buffalo last year and was sitting on the street until the Texans signed him a couple weeks ago when Ryan Mallett got hurt. Keenum will probably get the start, even though Lewis has been on the Texans a little longer, as Keenum played for them in training camp and knows the system a little better.
So, this all looks good for the Ravens. Just remember, the Ravens secondary is really bad. It's been masked the last couple of weeks because the Ravens pass rush was great and neither the Dolphins or Jags really attacked the secondary. It will be interesting to see if the Texans are able to protect the QB and throw downfield.
Their defense is better than the Jags, so the Ravens will have to show up like it did versus Miami and San Diego, and not like it didn't versus the Jags. The Ravens offensive line has done a great job protecting Flacco, who has been sacked just 16 times, second fewest in the NFL.
I like the Ravens, but if they play like they did against the Jags, they're in trouble.
