State Police Locate Suspect And Vehicle Involved In Fatal I-795 Crash
PIKESVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- Maryland State Police have located the car and suspected driver involved in a fatal crash on I-795 Wednesday afternoon.
The victim has been identified as William Fanning, Jr., 71, of Westminster. He was taken to Northwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Fanning was the driver and sole occupant of a 2000 Chevy Silverado.
The accused driver of a gray 2010 Nissan Rouge believed to be involved in the crash is currently in police custody.
The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending arrest. Troopers from the Maryland State Police CRASH Team are conducting the investigation and will consult with the Baltimore County State's Attorney before making an arrest and placing charges.
According to a preliminary investigation, witnesses at the scene told State Police that the crash may have been a result of a hit and run after the suspect's vehicle was seen sideswiping the victim's vehicle which then traveled off the right side of the roadway, striking a tree.
Both vehicles were traveling north when the crash happened, and witnesses told troopers they watched the suspect vehicle continue north after the collision.
