St. Patrick's Day Festivities In Full Swing Downtown

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's the day of wearing green, drinking and wishing luck. St. Patrick's Day is in full swing with fun and entertainment.

Marcus Washington has more on the celebrations and festivities across the area.

It's the day just about everyone is in green, seeing a man in a kilt is not unusual, and sheep? OK, we'll get to that in a moment.

But first stop, Slainte Irish Pub and Restaurant, where today is all about fun and tradition.

"Our moms, our aunts, they all did it when we were growing up," one woman said.

"And you have the little kids with the older people--like us now. We're the older people," her friend butted in.

Speak for yourself!" the other woman said.

Since 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, the pub has been open, serving beer and clearly a good time.

"Celebrating our Irish heritage, family, culture, music and the arts," one woman said.

OK, back to the sheep. It's a tradition at Loyola University Maryland.

"This one is named after me. This is Jesse," one student said.

Just for fun, the student government association brought in the sheep and everyone wanted to hold one. Well, not everyone. Marcus didn't want to dirty up his suit, but he did feed them.

It's just another way to celebrate the day in hopes of finding that lucky leprechaun.

"Got the hat, got the shirt, got the beads," one man said.

Baltimore City police plan to continue checkpoints throughout the night.
