If any city knows how to handle a celebration, it's Baltimore. This includes the distinctly Irish holiday of St. Patrick's Day. While it's not often discussed, Baltimore has a long Irish history and heritage, having been a calling port for Irish immigrants who worked both the local seaports and the railroads. Nowadays, Baltimore has more than its fair share of Irish pubs and Catholic churches.

If you like sampling Irish food and drinks, celebrating history, or simply celebrating, check out some of the many events Baltimore has to offer this St. Paddy's Day.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade has become a longstanding Baltimore tradition. And like most Baltimore traditions, it has become quite the celebration. With more creativity and effort being put into the event each year, it has become all the more reason to show up and see what new ways they have discovered to honor the ancient country of Ireland.

When you and your family attend this event, expect to see traditional Ireland dance, music and dress. Also expect to discover other Irish traditions you may not have known about.

What would a holiday that involves so much eating (and drinking!) be without a good marathon to help you enjoy all those calories guilt free? Charm City Run to the rescue. The Shamrock 5K race kicks off 45 minutes before the Saint Paddy Parade so runners can finish their race and jump right into the festivities while they are in full swing.

St. Patrick's Day may be a day of celebration of Irish heritage, there is one tradition often thought of as the focus of the event. This is, of course, the Irish beverages.

That is all well and good, but if you are a parent, it might be a bit of a concern that your teenager will possibly be tempted to engage in this particular form of celebration. Don't worry, though, Heat Cardio Club has you covered. This year the athletic club will be hosting its first-ever Saint Patrick's Day party for teens. The party will be complete with club lighting, music, dance and an Irish theme, but no alcohol. Let your teenager and their friends have fun this Saint Paddy's day without concern.

The Lake Roland area is an oasis of greenery and nature in Baltimore area that is perfect for a picnic, hike, place to let your dog play, or education regarding the wild.

Since it is fabled that Saint Patrick rid Ireland of snakes, the Lake Roland Nature Counsel has arranged a St. Paddy's educational event about the cold-blooded creatures. Participants will get to see and handle some of the animals that call Lake Roland home and there will be crafts for the kids, too.
