Molly Shattuck Indicted On Charges Related To Sexual Contact With Minor

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Weathy socialite Molly Shattuck gained fame for being the oldest cheerleader in NFL history.

Mike Hellgren has the latest details.

The author, mother and reality show star then developed her own wholesome, healthy living brand.

But now, she's at the center of a sex scandal.

In Shattuck's mug shot, she's wearing a conservative tweed suit and a cross, far different from the image on her family Christmas card a few years back.

Delaware State Police have charged Shattuck with third-degree rape, part of a 9-count indictment that allege she and an inappropriate, sexual relationship with her son's 15-year-old classmate that started when she began commenting on his Instagram photos.

Shattuck is 47.

The investigation lead to a search of her multi-million dollar Roland park mansion, where police were looking for her underwear that matched what the teen described from their encounter.

"I was shocked, but mostly saddened. Very, very sad," Shattuck's neighbor told WJZ.

Shattuck is the estranged wife of business executive Mayo Shattuck -- a Fortune 500 executive -- who is chairman of Exelon, which owns BGE.

She's promoted Baltimore tourism, even won a distinguished women's award from the Girls Scouts.

WJZ has been looking into the allegations for weeks as have police in both Maryland and Delaware.

According to the search warrant WJZ obtained, in additon to Instagram, Shattuck and the teen began texting regularly.

They met at a theater in Columbia, where the relationship first turned sexual.

The warrant detailed more intimate meetings throughout July - when Shattuck would pick up the teen in Owings Mills and take him to a parking garage during lunch breaks from his chemistry class.

Baltimore County's State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger would not do an interview, but released a statement saying he was deferring prosecution at this time, but could revisit the issue in the future.

He's leaving that up to Delaware authorities.

According to the search warrant, the relationship ramped up there during a Labor Day weekend trip when Ms. Shattuck rented a beachfront home in Bethany Beach, Del. and invited the teen to stay overnight.

The warrants details how Shattuck promised the teen's father there would be no alcohol, but she drank wine and offered some to the 15-year-old.

Around 2 a.m. on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, police say Shattuck drove to a liquor store where she bought beer.

They went back to the house, where police say Shattuck asked the teen to help her walk the dog and ended up having oral sex with him, as her son and his other friends partied on the rooftop.

A few hours later, according to police, Shattuck announced the teen needed to go to bed.

Moments later he was in her room, where police say she stripped and had oral intercourse with him and said "if he wanted to have sex, she would." The teen left the room and didn't come back.

According to the warrant, he said Shattuck contacted him on Instagram in the weeks after their encounter.

He notified authorities in late September.

Shattuck has pleaded not guilty to the charges and the school the victim attended issued a statement prohibiting her from campus.

"The safety and well-being of our students is always our highest priority at McDonogh School. On September 24, Headmaster Charlie Britton was informed of alleged inappropriate behavior by a current parent toward a McDonogh student, and he immediately reported the serious allegations to the Baltimore County Police Department. The parent has been prohibited from entering McDonogh's campus and additional security measures have been in place to assure the safety of students since the incident was reported. We are committed to doing everything we can as a school to protect the privacy and confidentiality of our students. If you have further questions, please contact the appropriate law enforcement authorities."

Shattuck resigned from the board of directors for United Way of Central Maryland. The organization issued a statement about the indictment.

"This morning, United Way of Central Maryland learned of criminal indictments filed in Delaware against Molly Shattuck, a board member and long time volunteer. Today, Ms. Shattuck tendered her resignation from the Board of Directors. She will no longer participate in any United Way of Central Maryland volunteer activities."

Our media partner, the Baltimore Sun, spoke to Michelle Lipkowitz, a lawyer representing Shattuck. She said Shattuck---who was deeply involved in local charities---has resigned from all of her nonprofit boards. They include the Baltimore School for the Arts, United Way and the National Children's Museum.

"It is a difficult time for all involved," Lipkowitz told the Sun. She declined further comment.

Howard County police now say they are looking into what happened between Shattuck and the teen---detailed in the search warrant---at the movie theater in Columbia. Police there say nothing was reported to them at the time.
