Small Plane Carrying 3 Crashes In Annapolis; No Injuries Reported
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- No one was injured after a small plane carrying three people crashed Friday afternoon in Annapolis, according to Maryland State Police.
Authorities say the plane crashed in a wooded area near the Route 50 ramp to MD Route 665 around 3 p.m.
The pilot was identified as Christopher Curry, 32, of Odenton, Maryland. Curry also had his two young sons in the aircraft.
Incredibly he was able to land the plane near the busy highway without crashing into any cars.
Troopers say after returning to Tipton Airfield in Fort Mead, Curry started to lose RPMs and noticed smoke coming from the engine. Curry made an emergency landing and the aircraft stuck a light pole and a guardrail.
"After the Roy Halladay plane crash obviously this is disturbing, we're really glad everyone is safe this time, especially with kids," Patrick Strubbe said.
"A lot of times these things are resulting in death, and just looking at the plane and the damage to that plane it kind indicates they're very fortunate," Paul Aguiar said.
No injuries were reported.
The model of the white aircraft involved is a Socata TB200 registered to Tipton Tampico LLC.
Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were called into to investigate.
The crash did result in some traffic backups but the ramp was reopened within four hours of the crash.
