Slippery Bridge Causes Fatal Crash

CALIFORNIA, Md. (AP) -- Slippery road surface is being blamed by police for a fatal crash in Calvert County.

Calvert County Sheriff's spokesman Capt. Todd Ireland tells The Washington Post that a woman was killed Monday evening while driving across the Thomas Johnson Bridge.

She was traveling southbound in Hollywood about 6 p.m. when her Toyota Camry slid across the median and into oncoming traffic.

The Post reported the woman's car crashed into a Jeep traveling northbound.

Images posted to the website of the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department, which responded to the scene, show a slushy road and a sedan severely crushed on its passenger side.

Both drivers were transported to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital, where the woman died and the Jeep's driver was listed in stable condition.
