'Shake Shack' Opening In Downtown Baltimore
BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ)-- It began in New York in the form of a hot dog cart, now it's a brand known around the world and will soon open in Baltimore.
Ron Matz has more on the excitement building over some new burgers and fries coming to downtown.
If you're not familiar with Shake Shack, you will be soon-- famous for their burgers and fries, they'll open across from the Baltimore World Trade Center on Monday.
"They're up in New York, I've been to one in New York and they're very good," said Tom Bell.
It's just part of the "Pratt Street Plan"—a Chik-fil-A, Nally Fresh and CVS are getting ready to open in this block too.
"The whole block has new retail coming in. In 2008, the Downtown Partnership launched the Pratt Street Plan. It's a long term plan to increase retail along what we believe is the main drag in Downtown Baltimore," said Lauren Hamilton, Downtown Partnership.
Shake Shack is so successful, it's now traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Its logo is famous. Inside employees are getting ready, burgers, frozen custard and more are heading for Charm City.
"There are a lot of people in the Inner Harbor working and living and in the neighbors directly nearby. We are at 41,000 residents and quickly growing," said Hamilton.
Shake Shack has more than 50 locations around the world including: London, Dubai and Moscow, and now Baltimore is added to the list.
"I'm looking forward to the new restaurant opening. I love burgers and I love fries. So we'll have to give it a try," said Alana Rider.
Shake Shack will open Monday at 11:00 a.m.
