Severino: AL East Is A 'Knockdown, Drag Out Fight'
Paul Severino from MLB Network joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to break down the latest in the MLB.
Just two games separates third place from first place in the AL East.
Severino gave his thoughts on the division race saying, "As we've seen the last five years, it's a wide open division…it's a knockdown, drag out fight, but maybe not in that two teams winning 99 games sort of way. Maybe three or four teams winning 88-89 to 94-95 for a division winner."
Although the New York Yankees are having a down season at 61-59, they were able to make some moves at the deadline to get younger. Severino likes the team's new makeover. "They're in a different spot than they're usually in…Obviously they weren't playing up to their usual expectations this year and they needed to pull the trigger on a couple of trades. They got big hauls back on all these," he said.
More and more teams are relying on shut-down, power arms in the back end of their bullpens especially in the playoffs. Severino talked about the evolution of the bullpen the past few years. "It seems like everybody and their mother throws 99 mph these days you just see so many swings and misses…Teams want those swing and miss type-guys at the back end of their bullpen…There's a reason why every year at the trade deadline bullpen arms are the ones that seem to be on the move the most."
