12 Adults, 2 Juveniles Arrested After Businesses Were Damaged In Downtown Baltimore Overnight, Police Say
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — More than a dozen people were arrested overnight after numerous businesses downtown were damaged or burglarized, Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said Sunday.
Twelve adults and two juveniles were arrested on charges ranging from burglary to aggravated assault and attempted arson, the commissioner said.
The arrests came on the second day of demonstrations in the wake of the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died while in police custody in Minneapolis.
Overnight, the Baltimore Police Department tweeted there were small groups of "juveniles and young adults" that damaged at least three businesses in the downtown area.
Harrison later said the department has received reports of damaged property at eight locations and burglaries at 11 locations.
He and Mayor Bernard C. "Jack" Young also said they received a report of a crew from a local TV station being assaulted, which the commissioner called "absolutely unacceptable."
