Seattle's Reaction To The Nelson Cruz Signing
Tim Booth of the AP in Seattle joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn and Jason La Canfora to breakdown the Mariners acquisition of Orioles designated hitter Nelson Cruz. Cruz joined the Orioles early in Spring Training during the 2014 season and hit a MLB high 40 Homeruns and drove 108 RBI' for the birds last season.
After hitting for big numbers it was expected Nelson would net a big deal and he did agreeing to a 4 year 57 million dollar contract with the Mariners. Tim believes it was a smart move for the M's. " It's a low cost deal if you look at it from the standpoint Seattle didn't have to give up any of their young prospects or any of their pitching. You look at their per year average and 13, 14 million dollars per year isn't really that bad considering what Nelson did last year at the plate and it fills a major hole they had in their lineup. He's going to be immediately sandwiched in between Robinson Cano and Kyle Seager."
Scott brought up how Nelson was handled with the Orioles by spending some time in the field to keep the rust off of his glove, but also seeing significant time at DH. Tim believes that the Mariners need to acquire another corner outfielder. "In a perfect world, Seattle would like to make one more signing maybe a Right Fielder and have Nelson Cruz be your DH at all times."
