Score A Cannoli! Baltimore Soccer Fans To Follow The World Cup In Little Italy

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --It happens once every four years, and it starts Thursday in Brazil. Soccer fans in Baltimore can't wait. It's the World Cup.

Ron Matz reports for one restaurant in Charm City, it will be much more than just a sporting event.

From Brazil to Baltimore, it's time for the World Cup 2014.

At Amicci's in Little Italy, there's a special menu with delicious food and reduced prices. The shrimp pane rotundo and the big screens are ready.

"When Italy scores a goal during the entire World Cup tournament, everyone sitting at the bar will get a free cannoli," said Roland Keh, owner of Amicci's.

There will be 64 matches over the next month, a fan fest in Rio and soccer on the world stage. Brazil is favored to win the cup while the U.S.A. is a long shot at 250 to one longshot.

"It's a long tournament, so we're excited about it. It puts a lot of people in our bar and our restaurant," said Keh. "We have soccer fans who come in every day asking to put a match on television. We're quite surprised by the popularity of it."

During the tournament, they'll also remember Monica Pence Barlow with a fundraiser. The Orioles public relations director, a non-smoker, died of lung cancer earlier this year.

"We're going to hold some raffles throughout the tournament," said Keh. "Proceeds from those raffles will go to Lungevity in honor of my partner's cousin, Monica Barlow, who passed away from lung cancer. She worked with the Orioles for many, many years."

Baltimore soccer fans will follow the World Cup at Amicci's and all over town through the final on Sunday, July 13.

The United States plays its first match against Ghana on Monday night at 6 p.m.
