Salisbury Man Sentenced To 40 Years In 1999 Rape

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- A Salisbury man identified through DNA has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for raping a woman in 1999.

Fifty-two-year-old Christopher Gibbs Jr. was sentenced Friday in Wicomico County Circuit Court. He had been convicted in March of second-degree rape, of robbery and burglary.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports that prosecutors say on July 22, 1999, Gibbs forced the woman into her Salisbury home a knifepoint, raped her and stole her purse and car keys. Gibbs was not identified as a suspect in the crimes until a DNA match was made last year.
