Truck Driver Jerry Jones Dies In Crash On Route 29 Near Columbia

COLUMBIA, Md. (WJZ) -- The driver of a gravel truck died in a crash on Route 29 near Columbia Friday morning, police said.

Howard County said the crash happened just after 8 a.m. when the gravel truck collided with a vehicle turning from Route 29 onto Rivers Edge Road. The truck driver died at the scene and the driver of the car was taken to Shock Trauma in critical condition.

Police later identified the truck driver as Jerry Melvin Jones, 58, of Randallstown and the driver of the car as Lashara Moore, 45, of Randallstown.

Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, police said.

A crew on the scene showed first responders loading a person into a Maryland State Police helicopter, which took off from the area.

Northbound lanes of Route 29 have reopened, though all but one southbound lane remain closed.
