Ravens RB Gus Edwards returns to practice for first time since tearing ACL last year
OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens got a potential boost to their running games Wednesday with Gus Edwards returning to practice.
Edwards, who suffered a season-ending torn ACL in 2021, was designated to return off the PUP list and has 21 days to be activated to the 53-man roster.
There is not yet a timetable for his return to game action.
Head coach John Harbaugh told reporters Edwards looked good.
"He's out there, he's done a really good job with his rehab, he's worked really hard. He had a good day," he said. "So, it's obviously just the first day back in quite a long time; we're going to have to see where it goes, but it was certainly a good start."
Edwards has averaged 5.2 yards per carry over three seasons. He practiced Wednesday for the first time since September 2021.
His return to the Ravens' backfield gives the offense a jolt with J.K. Dobbins, who returned from a torn ACL two weeks ago, and quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Edwards has rushed for more than 700 yards in each of his three NFL seasons prior to his injury. His presence a positive for the Ravens ahead of their Sunday night home game with Cincinnati.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson said it was "wonderful" to see Edwards on the practice field.
"He looked like Gus to me," Jackson said. "It looks like he's back, 100%. I just can't wait to see him on the field."
Injury watch on the offensive line: Left tackle Ronnie Stanley was a full participant in practice Wednesday. He hasn't yet made his season debut as he continues his comeback from ankle surgery.
