Ravens GM Speaks Out After Recent Arrests
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Baltimore Ravens are in damage control mode after another player is arrested, this time for drug possession. As Baltimore waits to hear from Ray Rice, the team's general manager is speaking out.
Mary Bubala has more.
Ravens wide receiver Deonte Thompson's future with the Ravens is unknown after his arrest Friday in Florida. He's charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The Ravens released a statement on his arrest, saying, "We are aware of the situation. We are gathering more facts. There are two sides to every story."
It's a response not unlike what the Ravens have said about the Ray Rice arrest in Atlantic City.
Now widely seen video from TMZ shows security camera footage of Rice dragging his fiancee out of an elevator following an altercation. Rice has yet to speak out but the team's GM, Ozzie Newsome, did. He wondered if a different version of the incident could emerge with more complete video footage.
"I don't know if a different story will come out. I mean, the video is what it is. But like I said, up until the process runs its course, we as an organization will stand down," Newsome said.
Rice was arrested for simple domestic assault. A court summons obtained by WJZ alleges his fiancee Janay Palmer was knocked unconscious after Rice hit her. Palmer was also arrested for the same charge of simple domestic assault.
The NFL is currently reviewing the incident under its code of conduct policy. The same goes for the lower profile arrest of Deonte Thompson.
Thompson posted $7,000 bail and was released. A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
Rice's hearing scheduled for Tuesday in Atlantic City has also been postponed.
