Pre-Game Prank: Army Colors Painted On Naval Academy Seal
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- High jinks abound in the week leading up to the Army-Navy football rivalry game, and this year is no different.
The Capital reports that the letter "A" was painted in black, white and gold over the Naval Academy's seal late Tuesday or early Wednesday. On Wednesday morning, the black and gold paint had been washed off the academy seal, which is embedded in the sidewalk near the Naval Academy dorm.
The football game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
No one has claimed responsibility for painting over the seal, but Midshipmen suspect Army sympathizers were behind the deed.
Pranks between the two institutions go far back. In 1953, Army cadets captured Navy's goat mascot, Bill XV, and in 1970, Navy smoke-bombed Army when cadets marched on the field in Philadelphia.
