Suspect In Custody After Neighbor Reportedly Hears Loud Sound, Bomb Squad Investigating
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore County Police say that one person is in custody, after bomb squad crews were called to investigate a home in Essex on Sunday evening.
At around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Baltimore County Police say officers were called the unit block of Cardinal Road in Essex, for an unconfirmed incident inside a house.
One neighbor told WJZ that another neighbor heard a loud sound and alerted authorities.
Residents of one Essex neighborhood are left rattled, after the bomb squad is called to investigate a possible explosion. Tonight, one person is in police custody.
Neighbors tell WJZ, they have no idea what exploded, they're just happy no one was hurt.
"Of course it scares you," says one neighbor.
Traffic was shut down on several blocks for hours until police gave the "all clear."
"It's a little scary because usually, I mean, a bomb goes off it can take a few houses out or our neighborhood, depending on what kind of bomb it is," says neighbor Debbie Long.
First responders arrived on scene and urged residents to shelter in place while they secured the area.
"The fire department and police were going door to door and telling everyone to leave. Some people got in their cars and left," says Long.
One person was taken into custody. Eyewitnesses say they saw a man being escorted by police.
"They got the guy, walked him out in cuffs, took him across the street," says Long.
"I felt kind of bad for the child that I saw that came, that the officers had with them when they were walking down here. I wish the best for the child," says Kyle Marshall.
A community left wondering what happened inside that house and why. The investigation is on-going at this time. It's not clear if or what charges the person in custody will face.
