Police: Substitute Teacher Faces Several Charges

CLOVERLY, Md. (AP) — Police in Maryland say a substitute teacher has been charged after a student told his parent the substitute teacher touched him in a way that made him feel uncomfortable.

Montgomery County police said in a news release Saturday that 59-year-old Steven Katz was charged with sexual abuse of a minor and fourth-degree sexual offense.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a Cloverly Elementary School student told his parent that his substitute teacher, identified as Katz, had touched him in a way that made him feel uncomfortable at school that day.

The parent notified school administrators who then told police.

Police say Katz made admissions relating to inappropriately touching the student during an interview. It's unclear if Katz has a lawyer.
