Police Still Searching For Morgan State Student Kevon Dix's Killer

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Nearly a year after Kevon Dix was gunned down in northeast Baltimore, police are still searching for his killer.

Dix, 21, was shot in his car while leaving a friend's house in the 5900 block of Bertram Avenue around 10:23 p.m. on April 24, 2019. He died at the scene.

'Whoever Did This To Him, I Hope Your Heart Is As Heavy As Ours' Family And Friends Mourn Loss Of Kevon Dix

The Morgan State University student and aspiring singer and actor was just weeks away from graduation.

A flyer left on a car windshield in northeast Baltimore urges anyone with information about the April 2019 murder of Kevon Dix to call police.

Police and Dix's family canvassed the neighborhood where Dix died on Tuesday looking for witnesses and new information, leaving flyers on cars and in mailboxes pleading for answers.

Dix's mother Annette said her son was going to be famous. The music major dreamed of singing on Broadway.

"You might not make very much money and you can't live at home forever but he told me 'I'm gonna be famous,'" she said.

The last phone call she had with her son was hours before his death.

"I was telling him 'Your brother is about to come to Morgan. You have to get him acclimated with everything before you leave,'" she recalled.

Now, Annette's mission is to make sure people remember her son's full life story, not just the final chapter.

"Kevon Dix was an amazing young man, not just because he was my young man but because he built that legacy for himself," she said.

As detectives post tip lines to call and text, the broken-hearted mother hopes the crime won't go unpunished.

"You have to get some of these crimes solved, you have to because for every one you don't solve you have someone thinking 'I can go out here, commit murder and get away with it too,'" she said.
