Police Investigate Towson Starbucks Robbery
TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) -- Police in Baltimore County are searching for a brazen armed robber who targeted Starbucks during the morning coffee rush.
Christie Ileto has more on the bold crime.
Another armed robbery in Towson Monday just before 6 a.m. at a popular Starbucks on York Road and Burke Avenue.
"We just left that place, too," said one Towson resident.
Towson students are stunned as their campus is just across the street.
"A male suspect went into the store. He displayed a gun, he demanded money," said Elise Armacost, Baltimore County Police. "These employees did the right thing. They turned over the cash. Many times, the suspect is looking to take the cash and run and that's what happened here."
Police say the suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and this is the second time an armed robbery has happened at a Starbucks in the area in the last eight days.
Police say an arrest was made in the earlier Starbucks incident but this latest one comes on the heels of a recent surge of armed robberies over the last few months.
"We will not tolerate this behavior in Baltimore County," said Police Chief James Johnson.
Those arrests include nabbing men believed to be behind a bunch of commercial robberies and a pair for a December armed robbery at Towson Town Center. The department's ability to solve robbery cases in 2012 is higher than the statewide average.
"Starbucks is like a three, four-minute walk from the school. I don't feel safe," a resident said.
Police have a limited suspect description, but he was wearing a mask and dark-colored clothing. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
Anyone with information in this Starbucks robbery should call Baltimore County Police at 410-207-2020.
