Man Shoots Wife In Randallstown, Flees To Baltimore City & Shoots Himself In Head

RANDALLSTOWN, Md. (WJZ) — A wild scene stretching from Randallstown, Baltimore County to Northwest Baltimore. Police say a man shot his estranged wife and then took off.

Mike Hellgren has more on what happened.

The uncle of the woman who was shot says that his niece wanted out of her marriage. He says her husband ambushed her as she was leaving on her way to work and shot her as her mother watched.

Blood still stains the sidewalk in front of the home on Axehead court in Randallstown, where police say a man shot his wife after some sort of interaction on the front lawn.

Then, investigators say he fled, driving almost nine miles into Baltimore City, where he crashed on Liberty Heights Avenue.

The front end of the black Toyota Camry smashed into a tree.

"And as officers approached the vehicle, they noticed that he had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head," said Corporal John Wachter, Baltimore County Police.

Family members weren't talking and police are not sure how long the two had been married.

One neighbor, who asked WJZ not to show her face, provided some insight into the incident.

"It was about five minutes to 7 a.m., and I heard about four or five 'pop, pop, pop, pops.' I thought gunshots, sounds like firecrackers, gunshots in this neighborhood," she said. "I would hear them arguing all the time. But, you know, I just didn't think anything of it."

While they normally lived at the home together, police say he'd been staying somewhere else for the past few weeks.

"I don't have anything on active protective orders at this time," Wachter said. "As the investigation unfolds, I'm sure more information will come out that we'll be able to release."

The wife is being treated at Shock Trauma. Police say her injuries are not life threatening.

The uncle of the woman who was shot says she has gone through a successful surgery. He says her husband stood over her as he pulled the trigger.

The husband will face charges if he recovers.
