Police Investigate Fatal Car Wreck In Montgomery County

DAMASCUS, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County police are investigating a fatal car wreck that occurred in the Damascus area.

Police say an off-duty police officer came upon a collision on the 8100 block of Damascus Road at roughly 5 a.m. on Sunday.

Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Cadillac was traveling east on Damascus Road when it veered off the roadway and struck a telephone pole.

The driver, 19-year-old Jeffery Mark Thornton, was the only person inside the vehicle at the time, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
