Police ID Man Accused of Shooting Maryland Security Guard

ADELPHI, Md. (AP) — Police have identified a Washington man who authorities say was part of a duo that shot a security guard as they tried to rob a hotel near the University of Maryland campus earlier this week.

Twenty-four-year-old Jamal Ulysses Green was arrested early Tuesday in the aftermath of the shooting outside College Park Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.

The injured security guard was hospitalized in critical condition, but by Wednesday authorities described him as "recovering."

Green was charged Wednesday with armed robbery, attempted first degree murder and several other offenses.

Authorities say Green and another armed man stole three safes, which were found nearby.

University of Maryland Police Department Sgt. Roseanne Hoaas says investigators are still searching for his accomplice.
