Police Continue To Investigate May Hit-And-Run
BALTIMORE COUNTY(WJZ)—Hit-and-run suspect caught on camera. Now, police need your help to identify the driver who injured two people.
Tracey Leong explains why people in the neighborhood are not surprised it happened.
The hit-and-run happened last month and still no one has come forward. People who use this intersection say it is dangerous and safety measures need to be put in place.
Two women with a young child cross the road when a car comes crashing into the adults. A 26-year-old woman thrown onto a 25-year-old woman--the child makes it safely across.
But the driver of the silver sedan who hits them keeps going.
"The people was walking and I see the car right there, and I see a boom, and when I open my eyes the people on the floor," said William Vasquez.
William Vasquez works across the street at the business that captured the whole scene on camera. Vasquez was closing up when it happened on Eastern Avenue and 54th street on May 6th around 10:00 p.m.
"I don't realize the guy was going to run, I thought he was going to stay and by the time I look at him he just run away," Vasquez said.
Police say the crash is pedestrian error, but the driver faces charges for failing to remain at the scene.
"That person hit somebody, without even stopping to see if they were ok, or render aid," said Corporal John Wachter, Baltimore County Police.
People who live in this area and use this intersection say more isn't done, accidents like these hit-and-runs are going to keep happening.
"Kind of dangerous if you're not careful, change the way they set up the lighting area of the crosswalk because it's not the first time it's happened, and it won't be the last," said Michelle Williams.
This area sees a lot of foot traffic, many coming from the shopping center.
Dee Schultz lives near the intersection, she hopes safety measures will be put in place.
"We've been here 15 years and they still have not done nothing, and so many lives have been taken, because nobody will come and fix that light to give people time to cross the street," she says.
The two women did not suffer life threatening injuries.
The driver of the silver sedan faces felony hit and run charges and the car may have damage on its hood and front end.
