Police Arrest Metal Theft Suspects In Davidsonville And Glen Burnie

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --Anne Arundel County Police make two arrests in separate copper thefts in the county.

The first case dates back to February.

On Feb. 18, 2014 an employee of the Killarney House Restaurant located in the 500-block of West Central Avenue in Davidsonville reported a shed burglary where five copper heat exchangers valued at $10,000 were stolen. The exchangers were to be connected to new solar panels that had not yet delivered.

After an extensive investigation, detectives from the Metal Theft Unit have charged 29-year-old Jesse Bryant with fourth-degree burglary and theft of $1,000.

Meanwhile, officers in Glen Burnie's Northern District have closed a metal theft case as well.

On May 22, 2014, officers responded to a Home Depot store located at 66 Mountain Road for a reported theft. A Loss Prevention Officer reported that an unknown male took numerous items from the shelf (mainly copper flashing) valued at $567.56 and attempted to return the items without a receipt using his Maryland driver's license.

Police say the cashier copied his information down but denied the transaction. The suspect then left with the merchandise without paying for the items.

Detectives identified the suspect as 54-year-old Teddy Macey.

A further investigation revealed that Macey committed or attempted to commit four other thefts by fraud or deception at the same Home Depot Store beginning April 4, totaling $2,423.39.

After video surveillance was provided and the suspect was positively identified, detectives conducted surveillance and located the suspect's vehicle on Chestnut Hill Avenue in Severna Park.

On July 2, a traffic stop was conducted on the suspect's vehicle in Severna Park with the assistance of Eastern District officers. Macey was taken into custody without incident and charged with the theft scheme.
