Mother A 'Person Of Interest' After 2 Children Killed In Germantown

GERMANTOWN, Md. (WJZ) -- Tragedy strikes a Montgomery County neighborhood. Police say two children were found dead and three others, including two other children, were severely injured inside a Germantown home.

Investigators say they have far more questions than answers.

Christie Ileto has more on the information just released by police.

Police say two women are now persons of interest. One of those women is the children's 28-year-old mother. The second is a 21-year-old woman who reportedly lived at the house.

It was a tragic and what police are calling "bloody scene" on the 19000-block of Cherry Bend Drive in Germantown Friday.

Montgomery County Police say two children were discovered dead upstairs. Two others and one adult were injured.

Detectives say the deaths are suspicious and are being investigated as murders.

"The family just moved here a couple months ago," said Taylor Baptiste, neighbor.

Residents took in the horror from the sidewalks.

"The ones that are deceased, they were always outside playing. Never really saw anything wrong with the family," Baptiste said.

Timothy Darden says he never suspected anything.

"She was just like a young 20-year-old with kids. Single mother. She seemed happy to move into the neighborhood," he said.

Police say Friday morning wasn't the first time they had been to the residence. In fact, they had been there Thursday night.

"We got a call here last night from a neighbor who saw an unattended child in the vehicle," said Capt. Jim Daly, Montgomery County Police.

But when officers arrived, the child was back in the home and police say no one ever came to the door. But neighbors tell police there was commotion coming from the home overnight.

"Loud enough so that the neighbors could hear some kind of disturbance at the home," said Chief Tom Manger, Montgomery County Police.

"Shocked, but devastated at the same time. Especially when you didn't hear anything and then you see all this," one resident said.

While neighbors try to make sense of the horrific scene, police are trying to piece together what may have sparked this gruesome act of violence.

The motive is not clear. Police say they believe all four children were under the age of 10.

Two children, a boy and a girl, are being treated at Children's Hospital in northwest Washington.
