Pennsylvanian Suspected in Armed Robberies of Maryland Banks

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — Police are announcing the arrest of a Pennsylvania man suspected of firing a handgun during a credit union robbery in western Maryland earlier this month.

Hagerstown police said in a statement Wednesday that 53-year-old Edwin Hoerner is also a suspect in the Dec. 7 armed robbery of a bank in Westminster, Maryland.

Hagerstown police say they worked with Westminster police, the FBI and Pennsylvania State Police to execute a search warrant Wednesday at Hoerner's home in Shiremanstown, Pennsylvania, near Harrisburg.

Online court records do not list an attorney for Hoerner.

Police say Hoerner was the masked man who fired a shot into the floor of the Bulldog Federal Credit Union in Hagerstown during a robbery Dec. 2. He's awaiting extradition to Maryland to face charges including armed robbery and assault.
